The Legendary Army Rangers: From World War II to Present

Part I: The Formation and Early Days

The 75th Ranger Regiment is an elite special operations force within the United States Army. Its roots can be traced back to World War II, when ranger battalions were raised and specifically modeled after the British Commandos. Rangers tackled some of the toughest missions of the war, earning a reputation for courage and tenacity.

World War II

During World War II, the 75th Ranger Regiment participated in 16 major campaigns, including the Normandy landings, the Battle of the Bulge, and the capture of Corregidor in the Philippines. Ranger units were known for their daring raids and unconventional tactics.

Post-World War II

Following the war, the Ranger Regiment was disbanded. However, it was reactivated in 1974 in response to the growing threat of international terrorism. Since then, Rangers have served in numerous conflicts, including the Grenada invasion, the Panama invasion, the Gulf War, and the War on Terror.
